Sara R Hughes, she/they

Hello! I’m Sara Hughes. I have one biological child, Jacob, who is 23 years old and am also “Mama Sara” to hundreds of young people I’ve come to know and love through my volunteer and professional work as a mentor, educator, program manager, and overall Relationship Artist.

I began my personal and social change journey in 1999, after the tragic mass shooting at Columbine High School in Littleton, CO. From becoming active in movements to prevent gun violence with Million Mom March and mentoring through Compeer, to founding an affiliate of The Possibility Project in my hometown and ultimately starting a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, ROC the Possibilities, Inc. – I’ve been through a truly life-changing process and have learned so much along the way! Please contact me through this site or social media (links on “Contact Mama Sara” page).

“Everyone has the power for greatness, not for fame but greatness, because greatness is determined by service.”

  1. I’m so grateful to have met you via Pachamama – and just from the quick skimming I’ve been able to do (will sit with a chai tea and a blanket over the next while and settle in to reading you more fully), I just want to say what an amazing and inspiring person you are to me!

    1. Thank you so much, Deb. I am grateful to have met you, too! It’s a very strange time, to be sure, but the connections we are making are purposeful and powerful. There’s so much hope in that!
